This bowl was used to hold Ikin, sacred divining instruments used for Ifa divination.

The sculptural subject is a marvelous merging of religious and domestic actions.  The devote kneels before the Gods in supplication, her face composed and purposeful in her concentration, while, at one and the same moment, she holds and adjusts the child on her back.
