We only read books written by African American Authors. Our gifted authors are not being recognized for their talented craft and this is DOI's way of paying tribute to them. Through their visions and words we can see our-selves, culture, ourstory (history) and abilities.
Each member has the opportunity to select reading materials of their choice and with this comes some responsibilities. To select a book you must also host the meeting. When hosting a meeting you are responsible for the theme, food and location.
Theme: Depending on the type of book selected you might ask DOI to dress in a certain color or style (examples: an enslaved African, 70's fashions or as a queen).
Food: Your choice
Location: Your home, park, river bank, restaurant or spa etc. etc.
